According to Electrive, Tesla appears to be on the verge of shifting production of the current Model 3 to the new Model 3. According to China watchers, the current Model 3 currently produced at Tesla's Shanghai factory will be discontinued on August 14. Tesla has reportedly conducted trial production of the new Model 3 (known internally as Project Highland) at its Shanghai factory and plans to begin mass production in China in September.

Twitter user Chris Zheng001 said, "Tesla's Shanghai factory has begun to switch production, starting last week, producing two days of cash Model 3, two days of Highland, alternating production, and two weeks later completely switching to Highland production." Twitter account teslashanghai (not the official Tesla account) also revealed similar information, "Tesla's new Model 3 trial production has already begun, and mass deliveries will begin in September, earlier than initially expected." ”

Another sign of Tesla's transition to the new Model 3 is that Tesla has significantly delayed the delivery of the Model 3 in Europe. For example, Tesla's official website in Germany shows that the newly ordered Model 3 may not be delivered until October or November 2023, and for the high-performance version of the Model 3, it may not be delivered until January 2024 at the latest. Tesla's Model 3 delivered in Europe was produced at the Shanghai factory.
